rkana: Fight To Survive is, or rather will be a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that follows in the steps of the great Age Of Empires and Warcraft III. The main difference is that Arkana-FTS is free as in freedom and works on Linux as well as on Windows.
Fight epic battles in a realistic medieval setting with a touch of fantasy in this fantastic world that is Arkana with all its unique races and places. Either fulfill challenging missions in the campaign mode or fight your way up in the hierarchy of power that reigns the online world. Or just have some fun with your friends.
We also hope to grow a community of passionate gamers and programmers that makes this project even more interesting.
If you want to know more about Arkana-FTS, check out the different categories on this webpage and read the detailed introduction.
o there we go, nearly one year has passed since the last news. (Except for the developer's blog which updated more frequently.) This is a quick recap of what happened in the meantime and what is awaiting us in the coming year.
This year has been marked by three (four) big things:
- The absence of a release (sigh -.-")
- The change from Cal3D to bouge (sigh, again no visible progress)
- Server problems (sigh, the 3rd)
- Experiments/prototypes of the gameplay (yay!)

t's about time. After two years of hard work and several days of going nuts, we finally present the 0.0.4 Late Halloween Release. In the first place, we wanted to pull out the release on time for Halloween, but unfortunately a few bugs made the release-date slip, that's the reason for the "Late".
You'll find the download link in the menu on the left side by clicking on the Game and than on Download.
In this version, you can register and create your own profile. You can join various chatrooms or create your own. When creating your account in-game, you are automatically registered on our gamepage and our forum. This makes it possible to easily create a community around the game.
In the modelviewer (that you see in the game's mainmenu) you can load and try out various 3D models, most of which are there for testing purposes. Some of them can change their skin, some others can change the player's color while still some others have animations. Notably the Paladin has a lot of
good looking animations.
In the single player game, you can have a look at 3D terrains rendered in real-time. Even though you cannot move the camera yet, you can see that we have started working on the in-game part itself.
There is not much more to say in this short news. If you want to know more, comb through our gamepage or play around with Arkana-FTS. We would be extremely happy to welcome new members to our team, even if they only report bugs in the game or the gamepage. We are glad about any kind of constructive feedback or criticism!
If you feel at least a little interest in helping our team out, please don't be scared to get in touch! In order to make it even easier, these are the e-mail addresses of the two project leaders:
pompei2: pompei2@arkana-fts.org
moOshiE: mooshie@arkana-fts.org
IRC: #arkana-fts on freenode.net
See you!
PS: Who can find this release's easter egg "shout"? ;D

fter several years of development, the time has come for the project Arkana-FTS.org to reach out to the public. To start this adventure, we proudly present the gamepage we finally achieved to create and hope that you like it!
But let's get to the core right away. Those of you who already heard of our project and tried it out know, currently there is no actual gameplay. This most certainly lead you to throw away that sh*t and forget about it. Maybe you decided to give it a second try in a few years.
Unfortunately, this hasn't chaged yet - BUT don't be fooled by this! The progress we made might not be that visible, but we were working hard on the core of the game engine. The remainder of this document shall make you clear what progress we are talking about:
Administrative questions:
At some point, we asked ourselves how many times one has to create an account in order to actively participate in our (hopefully soon growing) community. First, there is the game account, then an account on the gamepage and one for the forums. More involved users will also want to add stuff to the wiki and report bugs. Up until now, all these actions needed an own account. We finally managed it to integrate all those accounts (except bug reporting) into just one! Thus from now on, you create an account in the game and use that one everywhere else.
Our web presence:
The gamepage is nothing more than a smart connection between the forum, the wiki and a blogging engine we wrote ourselves. All the gamepages content is currently extracted from one of them and shown using our custom design.
This allows us (and you!) to modify most of the gamepage's content, add new content like news-posts, screenshots, wallpapers and much more! Instead of being scared by the current lack of content, help us to fill the gamepage and make this project grow!
The first "official" content that might interest you is located in the News->developer's blog, Medias&Art->Wallpapers, Medias&Art->Screenshots, The Game->About the game and of course in our board!
The game itself:
Enough talking about the gamepage, the game itself made huge progress too! Most noticeably our 3D engine that now supports skeletal animation. It is also possible to show any "player color" at some places of a fully textured model and even light the models using various techniques.
We now work hard on the animation of the model and it's progressing well so far.
As soon as we are done with the animation code, we will create a new release where you can play around with those new features, take that as a promise!
Our second developer, kby, is working on the integration of a scripting-engine since quite some time now. This is essential to the game because without it, units won't execute your commands, there will be no AI, no monsters randomly spawning on the map, no action whatsoever. Unfortunately, this is a huge amount of work that will be nearly invisible to most players for a long time. He also restructured and improved a lot of code that deals with the player's settings. Those two things are again a big step forward for us, but you can hardly notice them when starting the game.
All in all, we hope to have given you a quick peek into the internals of Arkana-FTS.org and what we have done there and who knows, maybe you are getting interested in it?
If you always want to be up-to-date evne with the technical interals (and don't fear the English language), you should take a look at our developer's blog from time to time.
We know how difficult it is to get the stone rolling but we still hope some of you want to get involved, or at least give us a small feedback.
Help us to transform "their project" into "our project"!
See ya!
Your Arkana-fts.org Team.
